Cine Transfers

We transfer a lot of cine film.

Having two systems to choose from helps us tailor the results to suit your needs.

Our main film scanner is the modular Moviestuff 2k Retroscan Universal capable of scanning 8mm, 9.5 and 16mm film to resolutions up to 2K

The units custom software allows us to export AVI, MOV, MP4 files and Image sequences in the following formats JPEG - BMP - PNG - TIFF

It handles your originals by the edges only for maximum safety. No sprockets, claws and pinch rollers to potentially damage your precious film. With it’s super cool LED light source it will never burn your film. This scanner is particularly useful when the original film is fragile or warped.

As it has no actual size pre-sets we are able to include the films sprocket holes within the capture if you wish.

The 2k camera, based on the new Sony IMX chip produces outstanding colour and contrast with low noise levels. We can accept spool sizes up to 2400 ft

Our Moviestuff Retrosync module allows us to capture 8mm and 16mm sound film too

Our second unit is the Film - Digital T 183 HD set up perfect for producing bright MP4 files.

We transfer film for several companies who also offer this service to their customers. If you’re a business owner and would us to do this work for you, please get in touch. We offer trade discount and free technical support.

How we transfer our cine film

Your order makes it’s way to the inspection area where the overall condition is checked and any weak film splices are replaced. It’s treated with Butlers liquid film cleaner to ensure smooth travel through our film scanner. Each frame is captured and saved onto one of our dedicated hard drives. The resulting image sequences are imported into Sony Vegas where film speed is set, each scene is colour and density corrected, ensuring the very best viewing experience.

It is then transferred to either DVD or the media type of your choice. Once we’ve scrutinised the footage on a widescreen monitor and we’re 100% happy, it goes to the finishing department where it is labelled and packed ready for collection.

Long winded ………quite possibly

Is there a better way……..we don’t think so.
